High-tech meets university: FH Aachen visits evos and sphairlab

What does the future of medical technology look like - and who will shape it? Answers to these questions were provided at the Aachen-Merzbrück research airfield, where evos GmbH and sphairlab GmbH opened their doors to a very special group of visitors: Prof. Dr. Christina Feldmann from Aachen University of Applied Sciences was a guest with her master's course ‘Artificial Organs’ - a course that deals with nothing less than the development of artificial organs.

What often seems abstract in theory in the lecture theatre came to life onsite: After a compact overview of the complex phases of product development in medical technology - from the idea to approval - it was straight into practice. The focus was on test procedures that are indispensable in real everyday development work.

Dr. Paul Heinen and Daniel Sürken provided exciting insights into the evos and sphairlab laboratories. The students were able to experience live how bonds are validated, packaging is tested, and tensile tests are carried out on components - technical expertise at their fingertips. An experience that showed how much precision, planning and interdisciplinary collaboration is behind every medical innovation.

We would like to thank Prof. Feldmann for her visit and wish her continued success in establishing the pioneering field of study ‘Device- and Process Engineering in Medicine’. We are looking forward to meeting the next generationof developers - perhaps we will see some of them again soon, this time not as guests, but as colleagues.
